Queer folks played an outsized role in building the oldest city in California to what it is today.
From the indigenous Kumeyaay people's same sex relationships, to the formation of one of the first chapters of the Gay Liberation Front, Hillcrest has been the epicenter of some very important LGBTQ+ movements.
Our time together will focus on San Diego's sleepy beginnings to its evolution as a college town, retirement community and military base- and the rainbow legacy it carries as it has evolved into the sprawling metropolis it is today.
If you think American queer history is confined to New York City, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, I cannot WAIT to tell you the story of Hillcrest, San Diego.

Meeting and pickup
We'll meet at Pride Square, at the base of the Hillcrest Pride Flag.
We'll end our time together at the iconic Welcome to Hillcrest sign.
