Your adventure begins on Day 1 with an early 6:00 am departure from Durban, traveling through the scenic KwaZulu-Natal countryside towards the famous Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park, the oldest game reserve in Africa.
On arrival, you’ll set out on a thrilling 3-hour safari in an open 4x4 vehicle, with the chance to encounter lions, zebras, kudus, impalas, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, buffalo, and a wide variety of antelope and birdlife in their natural habitat. The reserve is especially renowned for its successful rhino conservation efforts, making this a highlight for wildlife enthusiasts.
After an exciting morning in the bush, you’ll pause for a lunch break at 1:00 pm, before continuing the journey to the charming coastal town of St Lucia, nestled within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. On arrival, you’ll check in at your comfortable accommodation, such as St Lucia Palms or a similar lodge, where you can relax and soak in the tranquil surroundings. The evening is free to enjoy the town’s laid-back atmosphere before resting for the next day’s adventures.
Day 2 begins with breakfast followed by a memorable Hippo and Crocodile Boat Cruise on the St Lucia Estuary. As you glide along the waterways, you’ll encounter pods of hippos, basking crocodiles, and an abundance of birdlife, all set against the backdrop of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
After a break for lunch, the tour continues with a game safari in the Dukuduku section of iSimangaliso Wetland Park, where elephants, buffalo, antelope, and countless bird species roam through diverse landscapes of forest and grassland.
In the late afternoon, you’ll depart St Lucia for the return journey, traveling once more through the scenic beauty of KwaZulu-Natal.
