Let's go south of the river, away from the authority of the City, Southwark, a place of excess, crime and death. Its streets housed taverns full of outlaws, prisons where prisoners suffered inhuman torture and forgotten cemeteries. On this tour, we will explore the beauty of the banks of the Thames where tragedy and the supernatural intertwine with the vibrant past of theatres, markets and alleyways.
We’ll start by exploring St Paul’s Cathedral for Southwark’s cultural and historical legacy, iconic London Bridges, Shakespeare and the Elizabethan theatre world, and visit ancient taverns where criminals and sailors shared stories of shipwrecks. We will visit the oldest prison where torture was routine and cemeteries that reflect the evolution of the city. We will also travel streets and emblematic buildings that have been the scene of important events and traditions.
