Mt. Takao is a mountain in the western part of Tokyo that offers breath taking views of Tokyo and beyond. Just a short train ride away from Shinjuku, you will feel like you are in a completely different part of the country. While on the mountain you will have the chance to see Mt Fuji, feed monkeys, and see a culturally important temple. After all of this you can enjoy a pleasant ride on a lift back to the base of the mountain, and relax in an Onsen.

We will meet at the west gate of the Keio line at Shinjuku station. From there we will go to Takao together.

End point

After the hike and Onsen are finished we will go to the Keio station next to the Onsen.

    Mt. Takaosan Hiking Course

    After we exit the train station we will begin our journey up the mountain. There are various different trails that go up the mountain, each with their own unique views and challenges. Which way we take is up to you.

    Mt. Takao

    Reaching the peak of the mountain, we will see many amazing views of Tokyo and Yokohama below. If we are lucky, we can see Mt. Fuji in the distance. Also, after our long hike we will reward ourselves with traditional, healthy, Japanese food at the mountains peak. The restaurant, located near the highest point is called Yamabiko.

    Takaosan Yakuo-in Yuki-ji Temple

    After we reach the peak of the mountain we will began our decent, it will be here that we encounter one of the most sacred temples in Japan. This temple is also a protected site by the Japan Heritage Foundation. This temple is filled with various icons of Japanese Shintoism.

    Once we complete our viewing of the temple complex we will have the opportunity to go to the monkey park. Here we will be able to feed monkeys and see them in their protected enclosure. Then, we will take the lift back down to the base of the mountain. This lift will offer us a beautiful view of the city below.

    Keio Takaosan Onsen Gokurakuyu

    To complete our hike, and recover our bodies, we will go to the Keio Onsen. Here we can have a good meal and relax at the Onsen. There are various types of Onsen water here, so it is a great way to sample different Onsen.
