Yaowang Mountain means "mountain of the corner" in Tibetan, which means that Yaowang Mountain is located at the corner of Red Mountain where the Potala Palace is located. At the end of the 17th century, in order to develop Tibetan medicine, Diba Sangye Gyatso built Menba Dratsang (medical institute) on Yaowang Mountain, and selected some lamas from various temples to study Tibetan medicine in the Dratsang. There is a statue of Medicine Buddha painted with sapphire in the Dratsang. Therefore, the Han people called this mountain "Yaowang Mountain".
