FLY FISHING:
From the panga, your captain chums fresh live sardines to bring fish to the surface and hold them near the boat — giving you the critical seconds to drop the fly in the strike zone and strip fast. Our captains understand fly fishing and work specifically with fly anglers. This is not an afterthought. It is the primary method.
SPORTFISHING:
Our local cooperative heads out before dawn to net fresh live sardines and meets you on the water at Ensenada de Muertos. No time wasted hunting for bait — more time fishing. Target roosterfish, dorado, marlin, wahoo, tuna, and jack crevalle.
All roosterfish are catch and release. These are world record waters and we fish them with respect.

What to expect

La Paz sits at the confluence of the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez — some of the most productive sportfishing water in the world. Roosterfish are The Hook's specialty, and every roosterfish caught on our boats is caught and released. These fish are too valuable to the ecosystem and too rare anywhere else on earth to keep.
Departures are from Ensenada de Muertos with captains from Agua Amarga who have fished these waters their entire lives. Maximum 4 anglers per boat (2 recommended for the best experience). Bait is included. Fly rods available to rent.
Beyond roosterfish you may encounter dorado, yellowtail, wahoo, and marlin depending on season. The captain makes all decisions on where to fish based on conditions that day — trust the local knowledge.
What's included: experienced captain, bait, all tackle for conventional fishing, fuel, ice. Fly rods available at additional cost. Transport to Ensenada de Muertos not included but can be arranged at booking.
