Discover the magic of Skye and get an authentic experience in the company of a local born and bred in Skye & Lochalsh. The owner's family came to Skye in the 16th century and he is an ex-employee of the School of Scottish Studies, University of Edinburgh. This is very much a bespoke tour where we work hard to meet your requirements while attempting to give you the benefit of our local knowledge to minimise tourist crowds. The tour described can be flexed to include The Fairy Pools or Neist Point on the west of the island by missing out elements of the main tour.
Remember to wear stout shoes and bring a waterproof jacket. Be aware that approximately half of the tour will be taken with travelling between attractions during which time your guide will make observations on the points of interest and scenery we pass.
Travellers have the option of walking up to the base of the rock but this is arduous and takes about 90 mins. Most people are content to stop at various viewpoints to take photographs.
There are two viewpoints. One looks out over the Lealt river waterfall and the other looks out on the Minch (Atlantic). We walk from one to the other and there is an opportunity for coffee from a vendor here.
The travellers can see and photograph both the Kilt Rock and the spectacular waterfall beside it. There are also views out the the Minch.
We drive up the hair-raising switchback (perfectly safe with our drivers) to the carpark at the top and then take in the iconic scenery, so singular it has been a backdrop to many films. Travellers can also take a short or an extended walk to immerse themeslves in this truly unique location.
We walk to the atmospheric ruin of Duntulm, home of the MacDonalds, where our guide will relate stories of clan warfare and tragedy.
The five 'black' houses comprise the museum which depicts life on Skye hundreds of years ago. The museum is optional, but we often picnic here making use of the delicatessan.
Travellers can walk to 'Castle Ewen', the naturally formed feature which is possible to climb to the top giving views of the highly unusual topography surrounding it. It's very easy to imagine that the 'fairy hillocks' are indeed home to the fairies.
The guide will accompany you to the ticket booth where you will get admission to the Castle and the Gardens. Once inside you will be assisted in the different parts of the Castle by their guides.
