This experience takes you away from the busy beach into the almost abandoned side of the island. The views are amazing and far reaching. You become immersed in the unique quietness of the area, the closeness to nature in this lightly walked area.
The area is a protected nature reserve and is home to many rare endemic plants and invertebrates. The area is very seasonal from the arid browns of summer to the lush greens of winter with the morning dew dripping off the moss on the trees by the cliff slopes.

What to expect

This walk follows the PR1 Porto Santo walking route to the top of the second highest mountain Pico Branco with its 480m sea cliff and also along a turn off to Terra Cha and its beautiful and scenic picnic spot. The Hike starts with a mountain side walk with plenty of protection through open land and then to a series of steps up into a highly wooded areas with magnificent panoramic views. The round trip is around 6km with an elevation of 360m.
