Hong Kong is best known for its pace as one of the famous concrete jungle city in the world. The nature of the city is often being underrated. I am a local living in Hong Kong for most of my life. Being a person who work in the art and culture, I have interest into any kind of unusual spot.
This path I curated is a summary of the different side of Hong Kong for you to discover. Yes riding the tram to the peak is very popular but it is not cool. It missed out one of the best part of Hong Kong - the accessibility to the stunning nature.
Wait at the Queen's Road entrance of the landmark Central Market near Central station
World's longest outdoor covered escalator system, opened in 1993. It runs for over 800m and rises over 135m in elevation.
Former Central Police Station Compound, the compound underwent a heritage revitalisation and reopened to the public, a centre for heritage and arts.
One of the oldest zoological and botanical centres in the world, and the oldest park in Hong Kong founded in 1864. We will pass through here and slowly walk up to the Peak.
Slowing walk up to the Peak from the crowded concrete jungle to the nature. As early as the 19th century, the Peak attracted prominent European residents because of its panoramic view over the city. It is also home to many species of birds, most prominently the black kite, and numerous species of butterflies. The walk is not super tough but fun to explore houses in the tree, also so many spot for unforgettable views of the city.
On the way we can visit the oldest tram stop open on 1888, in the middle of the mountain which is not closed. It has the colonial architecture format which rarely seen around in the city. You can have a short rest and see the tram pass-by.
The peak trail is a relaxing walk surrounding the mountain, on the way not only we can see the most stunning top shot of Hong Kong but also see the history of how the peak was design during the colonial period of time.
After the relaxing walk in the nature. We start to climb up to 500 stairs to the High West Peak, the fourth highest peak in Hong Kong island. It is also one of the highest spot of the western Hong Kong, which means you can see the sunset of Hong Kong in almost 360 panorama view. Unforgettable!
Depending on how dark it is after we catch the sunset, we will pass through the Pinewood Battery, a historic military site in Hong Kong built in 1901 during the battle of Hong Kong.
The hike will be finished either back to one of the nearest subway station, or there are options like for food recommendation nearby, or I can bring you to one of the hidden bar in the Hong Kong alleyway fashion, where we can have a taste of Hong Kong craft beers made by locals.
