Your tour begins early with a comfortable, air-conditioned bus ride from Ginza. Along the way, you’ll enjoy scenic views as you travel towards the mountainous region of Nikko, known for its rich history and breathtaking natural landscapes. When visiting Nikko in spring, the most beautiful season to discover this destination, the journey takes place at the perfect time to admire the city adorned with delicate cherry blossoms.
Upon arrival in Nikko, we enjoyed a panoramic view of the iconic Shinkyo Bridge from the bus. In spring, the deep red structure with its elegant arch stretches over the Daiya River, framed by cherry blossoms along the path.
You’ll depart for the magnificent Toshogu Shrine, the lavish mausoleum of shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu—considered one of Japan’s most beautiful and ornately decorated shrines. “During the cherry blossom season, the soft pink petals contrast beautifully with the shrine’s intricate carvings, its vibrant golden details, and the famous trio of the Wise Monkeys, making this UNESCO World Heritage Site especially enchanting.” You'll enjoy full access to explore the richly adorned inner areas of the shrine complex, including the five-story pagoda, while learning about the Tokugawa family’s lasting impact on Japanese history.
The tour continues to Kegon Falls, one of Japan's most spectacular waterfalls, located in Nikko National Park. You’ll arrive at the Kegon Falls area, after a 40 minute bus ride, and once there, you’ll have 1h 20 minutes free time to admire this 97-meter-high waterfall. You can walk to the observation deck or take an elevator to get closer to the base of the falls. This is also the perfect time to enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant, where you can taste local specialties like yuba (tofu skin) or freshwater fish dishes. (Please note: Due to weather conditions, during January and February, the visit to Kegon Falls and Lake Chuzenji will be replaced with a panoramic view of Rinnoji Temple and the Futarasan Shrine)
The tour heads to Lake Chuzenji, a serene mountain lake formed by volcanic activity from Mount Nantai. You’ll arrive at Lake Chuzenji, where you’ll have free time to stroll along the lakeside and take in the peaceful surroundings. During springtime, blooming cherry trees and crisp mountain air add to the peaceful atmosphere surrounding the lake. This is a great spot to relax and soak in the natural beauty of the area before heading back to the city.
After enjoying the scenic beauty of Lake Chuzenji, you’ll board the bus for the return trip to Tokyo. This is your chance to rest and reflect on the day’s adventures. You’ll return to Ginza, concluding a full day of cultural exploration, stunning natural scenery, and unforgettable experiences.
