This is our first stop. From here, you can see steam rising from Beppu’s hot springs with a clear view of the town and surrounding mountains. It’s a great spot to take in the landscape and enjoy one of Beppu’s most unique sights.
We will ascend 1300 meters above sea level on the largest Ropeway in Kyushu. Beppu Ropeway takes us to the top of Mt. Tsurumi, an active volcano and the source of Beppu Hot Springs, where you can see panoramic views of Beppu and Beppu Bay.
Mount Yufu is a 5,195 ft volcano located on the border of Yufu and Beppu. We will see it on the way to Yufuin.
This observatory is located between Yufuin and Beppu along the Yamanami Highway (Prefectural Route 11), known as one of the most scenic driving destinations in Kyushu. This stop offers a beautiful view of the Yufuin Basin from 680 meters above sea level.
A rural Japanese town that would make you feel like stepping into a beloved Ghibli film. Get a glimpse of the Japanese countryside hills and stroll around creeks and charming cafes.
We will walk to Lake Kinrin. The lake sits under Mt. Yufu and it was called takemoto-no-ike or “lake under the mountain” for several years by the locals. However, it was renamed to Kinrin, or “golden scales”, by Mori Kuso, a Confucius scholar, in 1884 when he saw the golden-scaled fish in the waters around sunset one day.
[Optional activity, subject to schedule] One of Beppu’s most famous “hells,” Umi Jigoku features stunning turquoise-blue waters heated to over 90°C (194°F) — too hot to touch but perfect for spectacular views. Formed over 1,200 years ago by volcanic activity, its vivid color comes from natural minerals. Watch steam rise and create a mystical, otherworldly scene that showcases Beppu’s incredible geothermal power.
