Cawfields Quarry – Survival Begins: Your journey kicks off at the striking Cawfields Quarry, where sheer volcanic rock meets the rugged line of Hadrian’s Wall. After a warm welcome, you’ll receive your own Bug-Out Bag—then face your first challenge: deciding what to pack for survival on the trail ahead. From there, your guide will lead you through the quarry’s dramatic landscape, sharing how centuries of quarrying shaped both the scenery and the Wall itself. Activity Level: Easy – mostly flat terrain.

Hadrian’s Wall Path – Hole Gap to Turret 41B: Follow your guide through Hole Gap and onto one of the most iconic stretches of the Hadrian’s Wall Path, passing ancient milecastles and turrets along the way. As you head toward the designated ‘safe zone,’ the survival scenario begins—placing you in the heart of an unfolding apocalyptic challenge. Work as a team to complete hands-on tasks that test your ability to navigate without GPS, make contact with other survivors, and build a signal before time runs out. Along the route, your guide will blend the fictional with the historical, drawing parallels between your survival mission and how Roman soldiers once patrolled, communicated, and held the line on this distant edge of empire. Activity Level: Easy to Moderate – around 1 mile with regular stops, one steeper climb via stone steps, and some uneven terrain.

Turret 41B – Rest Stop: Pause at one of Hadrian’s Wall’s best-preserved turrets, with panoramic views across the Roman vallum and the wide Northumberland landscape—once the edge of empire, now your imagined survival route. As you rest, rehydrate, and refuel, your guide will share stories of Roman lookout life, the role of these small watchtowers, and the Wall’s impressive engineering—revealing how people once stood guard against the unknown, scanning the horizon for signs of danger. Activity Level: Easy – seated rest stop.

Roman Military Way & Vallum – Tactics in the Landscape: Your return route follows the Roman Vallum and Military Way—once patrolled by soldiers, now the stage for your next survival challenge. Along the way, you’ll face lighthearted tactical tasks designed to test your zombie instincts: estimate distances, make snap group decisions, and outwit imagined threats in the landscape around you. As you go, your guide will reveal how Roman patrols once used this very route to monitor, manage, and respond to danger along the Wall. Expect a few short filming moments (optional, of course), that will form part of the Highlight reel. Activity Level: Easy to Moderate – approx. 1 mile with regular stops. Includes short, low-intensity tasks, uneven terrain, and two stile crossings.

The Crags – Claim the High Ground: Climb the most westerly walkable section of Hadrian’s Wall for your final challenge—and one unforgettable photo. This dramatic ridge offers sweeping views across the wild frontier once patrolled by Roman sentries, now imagined as the setting for your last stand in a post-apocalyptic world. It’s the kind of cinematic backdrop made for the closing scene of a survival film. Prefer to avoid the climb? Take the gentler lakeside path to the meeting point, where your guide will snap your finale photo with the quarry rising behind you. Activity Level: Moderate – short but steep climb with uneven terrain. Caution advised on the descent.
