4 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English and 1 more

Climb a mountain and discover a different way to experience the territory. Join Jair on a biocultural hiking experience connecting nature, local knowledge, and the history of communities that have inhabited this land.

You’ll walk through jungle trails, observe native flora and fauna in their natural habitat, and enjoy spectacular views. Most importantly you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how the territory, its ecosystems, and communities are interconnected, and why preserving this relationship matters for the future of the region.

This experience is part of XIQUIAN, a new initiative that seeks to promote alternative, biocultural, and community, based tourism in the region, transforming how visitors and communities interact with the territory. Through authentic, conscious experiences, we aim for every visitor not only to discover the destination, but also to understand its natural and cultural value, recognize the communities that keep it alive, and contribute to its conservation.

What to expect

Your adventure begins at the Sayulita bus station, where you’ll take a local bus for a scenic 25 minute ride to the charming village of Higuera Blanca, the gateway to Monkey Mountain (Cerro del Mono).

After a brief orientation, we’ll begin an 8 km (5 mile) round-trip hike to the summit.

Along the way, I’ll point out the local flora and fauna while sharing valuable insights into the history and traditions of this region.

Near the top, a short rock scramble will lead us to the summit, the perfect place to relax and take in breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, framed by panoramic vistas of the Riviera Nayarit.

We’ll descend along the same trail until we return to Higuera Blanca, where you’ll enjoy a refreshing coconut at one of the village’s most traditional spots. Finally, we’ll take a private car or taxi back to Sayulita, wrapping up a truly unforgettable experience.
