Offered in: English

Trace the fascinating evolution of Irish writing/printing from Ogham, to Insular script and finally to Cló Gaelach.

The Social Hack to Ireland: We do not just teach writing; we decode Hiberno-English - Ireland's very own English, insight into the Irish language and even into the Irish Constitution itself!

Work with 100-year-old poetry in the Irish language from a trailblazing female Dublin poet (Alice Furlong, a founder member of Inghinidhe na hÉireann alongside Maud Gonne).

A Souvenir with a Story: You won’t just leave with your very own written masterpiece; you’ll receive a digital resource pack to keep your Irish journey alive long after you fly home.

What to expect

Part 1: The History & The Tongue
We begin with a visual journey into the origins of Irish writing, from Ogham, to Insular script, working our way up to Cló Gaelach. You’ll see how this script evolved over 100s of years, examining beautiful prints, including the Irish Constitution, learn about what happened to Cló Gaelach and recent re-engagement with it. We’ll also learn about our very own English, Hiberno-English shaped by the Irish language and be taught a few essential Irish phrases to use during your stay.

Part 2: The Art of the Pen
Using specially designed practice sheets, you will be guided through each stroke of the Cló Gaelach script - creating a fun way to engage with this script while examining real printed examples of Cló Gaelach from the 20th century.

Part 3: The Masterpiece
Once you’ve found your flow, you will write a poem in Irish chosen from a 100-year-old Irish poetry book from a local female Dublin poet.

After our time together, you’ll receive a curated digital resource pack.
