    Basilica de Nossa Senhora do Rosario de Fatima

    The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima is one of the most famous Marian sanctuaries in the world. About four million people visit Fatima each year, attracted by the apparitions of the Virgin Mary by three child shepherds in 1917.

    Batalha Monastery

    The Dominican Monastery of the Battle was built to commemorate the Portuguese victory over the Castillans at the Battle of Aljubarrota in 1385.

The city is located in a wide bay of golden sands and is in the shade of the imposing promontory of Sitio. Historically, this promontory provided shelter for the fishing fleet and the boats were anchored high in the sands, protected from the ferociousness of the ocean.
