This is not just a day trip — it's a quiet journey into a place shaped by sea, wind, and tradition. And it's a chance to see that place through the eyes of someone who calls it home.
We invite you to Vannøya — an island far out on the edge of the Norwegian Sea, where we grew up. Life here has always been shaped by the ocean and the deep sense of freedom that comes from living between mountain peaks and open sea.
We'll travel across the fjord to this island, where dramatic mountains meet the vast ocean. You'll see endless views over fjords and islands, hear waves and seabirds, and feel the raw air that brings a profound sense of freedom and ease.
We'll visit a traditional fishing village and share stories of coastal life, hike to viewpoints over the Barents Sea, and end at a white-sand Arctic beach with a simple meal. The day moves at nature's pace.
This isn't a checklist of sights. It's a glimpse into island life in the far north — and a day we hope you'll remember.

Drive from Tromsø to Hansnes on Ringvassøy: We begin with a comfortable minibus ride from Tromsø, crossing Kvaløya with views over narrow fjords like Kvalsundet and Langsundet.
Ferry crossing from Hansnes to Vannøya: A peaceful ride through Langsundet, with views of Reinøya, Ringvassøya, Karlsøya, and the surrounding Arctic island seascape. There’s a small kiosk on board, and in good weather you can enjoy the scenery from the deck.
Scenic coastal drive from Skåningsbukt: After arriving at Vannøya, we travel west with views toward Hammerfjorden, rugged coastline, and the open ocean. Wildlife sightings are common — reindeer, sea eagles, and occasionally small whales. We stop along the way for fresh air, silence, and optional photos in the Arctic landscape.
Hike to a panoramic viewpoint: Depending on conditions, we’ll choose a short trail that leads to a scenic overlook with wide views across the Barents Sea, nearby islands like Helgøy and Nordkvaløya, and the mountain ridges of Vannøya. At the top, we enjoy hot drinks, snacks, and time for photos.
Visit to Torsvåg fishing settlement: We stop at Torsvåg and cross the causeway to Torsvåg holmen, a small island with a working fish landing and harbor. We step out to experience the wind, the sea, and take a photo stop with views toward the open ocean.
Viewpoint at Burøysund: Continuing to the northern side of the island, we visit Burøysund — a small village with views toward Nord-Fugløya, one of Northern Europe's largest bird cliffs, home to sea eagles, puffins, and more.
Relax at Sandskjæret Beach in Sengskroken: We end the day at a beautiful white-sand Arctic beach with views of fjords, mountains, and distant islands. Enjoy a quiet beach walk, a warm meal, and good conversation in a peaceful setting.
Return to Tromsø: After our time at the beach, we make our way back across the island, catch the ferry, and return to Tromsø by evening.
