Initiation Workshop to the Distillation of Gin near Saumur

2 hours 30 minutes (approximately)
Offered in: French

Take part in an interactive distillation workshop at our distillery in Roiffé (near the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud) and discover the secrets of gin making.

This experience from 2:30 am to 3:00 am invites you to create your own certified organic/organic gin.

Under the guidance of our expert distillers, you will learn how to produce gin on your own mini copper still. You will finish your creation by customizing your own label, and you will leave with your 70 cl bottle of gin (2x35 cl if you are two on a single distillation station).

You will learn the secrets of distillation, the choice of botanicals, the different possible styles of gin, and of course you will enjoy an excellent homemade cocktail highlighting Wezenn gin.

This activity is particularly aimed at an adult audience.

You also have the possibility of dining on site, or even staying at the Domaine de Roiffé.

What to expect

After the welcome and a brief presentation of the Wezenn distillery, participants warm up their own stills.
A presentation of the workstation and safety instructions is then made.
After 15 minutes, the first alcohol is produced. These are called the heads that we're going to separate from the alcohol that follows the heart.
Distillation of the hearts will take a short hour. During distillation, participants will be invited to follow the aromatic evolution of the alcohol produced.
During this phase, the master distiller will teach the history of alcohol in general and that of gin in particular.
It will also explain the details of the distillation process.
Distillation then reaches its final phase, the production of tails composed of molecules with heavier aromas can be unpleasant. These tails are then separated from the hearts. Participants are invited to feel the difference with hearts.
During the distillation of tails, the master distiller taught the art of food and spirits pairings then the art of cocktails presenting the most classic.
Finally, the session ends with a cocktail tasting.
