When you contemplate the works of your host and the admirable detail, the rigorous order, the peaceful harmony, you immediately recognize the talent.
A maâlem is literally “the one who knows”, a master of crafts or art, and this honorary title is given to persons deemed worthy of instruction or of passing on their know-how.
First of all, the expert hands trace the desired patterns, they are often represented with geometric interlacing, rosettes, muqarnas, not to mention calligraphy.
He then patiently sculpted his sketch, digging deeper into certain areas in order to accentuate the shadows that would increase their relief.
Your host, invites you in turn to immerse yourself in his universe. Using thin scissors and small chisels, you will have the opportunity to carve the letter of your first name on your piece of Gebs and take it with you as a souvenir of this immersion.
