Step into the hidden histories of Jenisch Park with my exclusive art historical tour, centred around the compelling "Parkomania" exhibition. We will explore how this remarkable park evolved—from Voght’s visionary 18th century ornamental farm to Jenisch’s romantic English landscape garden.
I will reveal intriguing stories behind the park’s designs, its layered past including the challenging Nazi period, and its colonial connections. You’ll gain insights into the park’s ecological importance today and preservation efforts that protect this living heritage.
You will get an overview of this neoclassical masterpiece by one of Germany’s most prominent architects, featuring elegant proportions, richly decorated interiors, and stunning views of the Elbe in one of Hamburg’s most treasured landscapes.
Join me on an enriching journey through time and nature by uncovering the park’s past and ongoing legacy–a truly unforgettable experience, ideal for history lovers and nature enthusiasts alike.
You will enter the park either from the Baron Vogt Straße or Am Hochrad and walk towards the museum, a white neo-classical villa. We will meet in the vestibule, which is the first large space you enter, next to the café and book- and ticket shop.
The villa, so so-called Jenisch Haus, is a neoclassical villa designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel and Gustav Forsmann between 1831–34, and features elegant proportions, richly decorated Empire and Biedermeier interiors, and stunning Elbe River views. Today it houses the Museum for Art and Culture on the Elbe with changing exhibitions.
