At 8.30h in the morning we will meet at the National museum of the Mongolian history. At 9 o’clock we will drive to Khogno Khan Mountain (300 km – 5hours road), passing through an exciting and grandiose landscape that mixes high mountain with grassland. On the way we’ll see the traditional gers of the herders who inhabit this sparse land and interesting ger cafes. The Khogno Khan mountain is situated in the center of Mongolia at 1967 meters above sea level. From here the panoramic vistas will give you an unforgettable impression of Mongolia’s size, from its peak you can see 200 km.
The second half the day will be given over to trekking enthusiasts. You can climb the Khogno Khan Mountain or visit the old, picturesque Ovgon monastery.
On that day, you will stay in a nomadic family's yurt. We will meet the family and ask them about their way of life. You will have the opportunity to observe or participate in the milking of cows or camels and see how dairy products are prepared.
In the morning we’ll drive to Khar Khorin village to visit the ancient monastery Erdene Zuu, the biggest in Mongolia. It is surrounded by walls with 108 stupas and has 3 main temples. Erdene Zuu was built in 1586 by Abtai Sain Khan. It was constructed on top of the burial tombs of the ancient capital city of Chinggis Khaan’s Empire.
After a picnic by the Orkhon River, we will visit the Kharakhorum Ethnographic Museum. This museum is a major cultural attraction in Kharkhorin, the former capital of the Mongol Empire. It houses a rich collection of archaeological artifacts from the ancient city of Kharkhorin, which was founded by Genghis Khan and reached its peak under his successors. The museum offers a fascinating insight into Mongol imperial history and Silk Road culture.
We will drive back to the nomad family in Khogno Khan Mountain area.
After breakfast, we will set off on a camel ride. The Khogno Tarna protected area offers magnificent scenery, featuring stunning sand dunes, vast plains, towering mountains, and a picturesque lake that serves as a summer habitat for numerous waterfowl. We will ride our camels to this dune-fringed lake before returning to the herder family's home. The ride will last approximately two to three hours.
