The Roman Forum—known in Latin as Forum Romanum—is a rectangular plaza surrounded by the ruins of once-significant government buildings at the heart of ancient Rome, near Palatine Hill. Originally a bustling marketplace, it became the political, commercial, and social center of the city, often referred to by locals as the Forum Magnum, or simply, the Forum.
(Pass By) This beautiful square was designed by the famous Michelangelo. Right in the center, you’ll see a replica of the statue of Emperor Marcus Aurelius—his original is kept safe in a museum nearby. At the back is the Palazzo Senatorio, with its elegant double staircase. Today, it’s home to Rome’s City Council, and inside, they still keep the old Patarina bell, which the Romans took from Viterbo during a war and used to ring out big announcements.
(Pass By)Piazza Venezia is one of the most famous squares in Rome, located right at the base of the Capitoline Hill. It’s a major crossroads where five key streets of the city come together. We’ll stop here to snap some amazing photos in front of the impressive Vittorio Emanuele II Monument, also known as the Altar of the Fatherland.
