This walking tour starts at Miyagawa-cho, then takes you through Hanami-kouji Street and Gion Shirakawa, where you can fully enjoy the charming streets of Gion and Higashiyama area.
The traditional machiya-lined streets feel like stepping back in time, and there are photo-worthy spots everywhere you look. Feel free to ask your guide for help with any photos!
Along the way, you’ll also pass famous temples and shrines like Kyoto Ebisu Shrine and Kennin-ji (we won’t go inside, but we’ll walk through the area).

This shrine is dedicated to Ebisu, one of Japan’s Seven Lucky Gods. He’s the god of good luck in business. You can make a very unique experience—you toss a coin upward toward a box above the main torii gate, under Ebisu’s big smiling face. It’s a lighthearted and memorable experience you won’t usually see at other shrines!
This is the main gate of Kennin-ji Temple, home to cultural treasures like the famous “Wind and Thunder Gods” picture. Passing through the peaceful temple grounds, you’ll arrive at Hanamikoji Street—suddenly surrounded by its lively, unforgettable atmosphere!
This is one of the most atmospheric and popular streets in all of Kyoto. The traditional teahouse (machiya) district has been beautifully preserved, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot a maiko or geiko passing by.
Stroll along the stone-paved path lined with traditional wooden townhouses (machiya), next to the clear waters of the Shirakawa River. The area is full of Kyoto charm, and the view at dusk offers a completely different, magical experience.
