The Churchill War Rooms are more than a collection of historic rooms — they are the place where some of the most consequential decisions of the Second World War were made.
Led by a professional historian, this 2.5-hour tour brings the underground headquarters to life through the people who worked here: from Churchill and his commanders to the typists, telephonists, secretaries and map officers who kept Britain's wartime government running.
Explore the Cabinet Room, Map Room and Churchill's personal quarters while discovering the arguments, personalities and pressures behind the decisions made here. We'll examine Churchill's remarkable rise to Prime Minister, how Britain coordinated a global war from beneath the streets of London, and the realities behind the familiar story of Britain's “finest hour.”
With a small group, there's plenty of opportunity to ask questions and explore the complexities of Churchill, his government and the war they were fighting.

Meeting and pickup
Meet your guide at the statue of Field Marshal Alan Brooke (Lord Alanbrooke) on Whitehall, outside the Ministry of Defence, close to the Cenotaph and Downing Street. Alanbrooke was Churchill's Chief of the Imperial General Staff for most of the Second World War.
The tour ends inside Churchill War Rooms at the museum gift shop. You are welcome to browse the shop before leaving the museum.

1Churchill War Rooms
Step inside the secret underground headquarters where Churchill and his government directed Britain's war effort during the Second World War. Explore the Cabinet Room, Map Room, Churchill's bedroom and the maze of offices where ministers, military commanders and staff worked through air raids and some of the darkest days of the war. Your historian guide will bring the rooms to life through the people who worked here, from Churchill and his senior commanders to the typists, secretaries, map officers and telephonists who kept this extraordinary underground world running. See rooms left much as they appeared when the lights were switched off in 1945, and discover the decisions, tensions, personalities and everyday realities behind Britain's wartime leadership. The visit also includes the Churchill Museum, exploring the life and legacy of one of the twentieth century's most famous — and complex — figures.
