Castle Mountain is a mountain located within Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies, approximately halfway between Banff and Lake Louise. It is the easternmost mountain of the Main Ranges in the Bow Valley and sits astride the Castle Mountain Fault which has thrust older sedimentary and metamorphic rocks forming the upper part of the mountain over the younger rocks forming its base.
Activities on and around the lakes include canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, wildlife watching, bird watching, and hiking. The shorelines along Vermilion Lakes Drive are popular locations for sunrise and sunset photography.
Lake Louise, often regarded as one of the most beautiful lakes in Canada, is nestled in the heart of Banff National Park, surrounded by majestic mountains and glaciers. The lake’s mesmerizing emerald color is a result of tiny mineral particles from the nearby glaciers that dissolve into the water, creating a stunning reflection. The area around the lake features the famous Lakeshore Trail, where visitors can stroll and enjoy the breathtaking natural scenery. In summer, you can even rent a canoe and paddle across the lake, immersing yourself in the cool, refreshing water. During winter, Lake Louise transforms into a winter wonderland, with ice sculptures and an outdoor ice rink adding to its charm. It's also a popular destination for skiing and snowshoeing.
Johnston Canyon is a beautiful and popular hiking destination located in Banff National Park. Known for its stunning waterfalls, the canyon features a series of pathways and bridges that lead visitors through narrow rock walls and past both lower and upper waterfalls. The hike is relatively easy and offers breathtaking views of the crystal-clear waters, making it a must-see for nature lovers. In winter, the canyon transforms into a magical icy wonderland with frozen waterfalls, attracting visitors for ice walks and photography.
