Ryten is a stunning mountain peak located in Lofotodden National Park, near the village of Fredvang. From its summit, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the mountains on Moskenes Island and Flakstad Island, as well as the famous Kvalvika Beach.
Ryten is considered a reasonably safe mountain with no avalanche danger due to its gentler slopes. This makes it accessible even in winter with the right equipment, guidance, and favorable weather conditions.
Standing at 543 meters above sea level, the hike involves tackling more than 500 meters of elevation gain. While it’s by no means an easy trek, the reward at the top is unparalleled, offering views that have moved some of our clients to tears, calling it the most amazing trip of their lives.
No prior experience with winter hiking, or even hiking, is needed to complete this trip. However, you need to be comfortable pushing yourself physically in deep snow and sometimes steep terrain. A certain physical shape is recommended.
PICKUP SERVICE We will pick you up from any accommodation between Å and Ramberg. Please let us know when you book where you are staying. If you cannot find your accommodation in the seach function, just put down the nearest general area and reach out to us later with the exact location. SELF DRIVE If you prefer to drive your own car, that´s totally fine as well. In that case, we will meet at the trailhead parking for Ryten & Kvalvika in Innersand near Fredvang. We will be in touch with everyone the day before the tour to let you know about the exact pickup or meeting times.
If you arrive with your own car we will meet at the large parking for Ryten & Kvalvika. Note that the parking is paid and costs 100 NOK for the day. Payment for the parking can be done with a card, and preferably before you drive into the parking.
Ivar, your driver and guide, will pick you up at your accommodation (anywhere between Å and Ramberg) and drive you to the trailhead. We will use snowshoes, microspikes, or potentially both, depending on the snow conditions. Ivar will show you how to use the snowshoes and adjust the hiking poles, and you’ll receive instructions on how to layer your clothes to avoid getting sweaty and subsequently cold. During the trip, we will take it easy and have frequent breaks so you can take pictures, catch your breath, and simply enjoy yourself. In a group of up to 8 people, everyone can have a different pace. We’ll always adjust to the slowest participant to make sure no one is left behind. This also means that others might need to walk slower or take breaks while waiting for the rest of the group. If you prefer not to be slowed down by other group members, we suggest booking a private hike and letting Ivar know a bit in advance so he can add more cardio to his training sessions.
