BY THE WAY ...
Check out the details of our other hike: you might love that one too! It’s called “Deep Creek Hike: Trails and Tales with a Foreign Flair”.
We’ll meet at the AYERS HOUSE, a beautiful heritage mansion at the eastern end of North Terrace, in the CBD, with a lovely garden and plenty of space to pull up with the car and hop in safely, away from the city traffic. If you’re coming by tram, there’s a stop right at the entrance to AYERS HOUSE.
9AM PICK-UP AT AYERS HOUSE Meet your guide and fellow hikers at this calm and convenient spot in the heart of the city, featuring a beautiful garden, away from city traffic. TIPS ON HOW TO GET TO AYERS HOUSE It’s about a 15 min walk from Adelaide Railway Station. If you prefer to save your steps for the hike, take the free tram (BTANIC service toward BOTANIC GARDENS) from the station and alight at the BOTANIC GARDENS TRAM STOP (end of the tram line). A BIT OF HISTORY ON AYERS HOUSE Built in 1846 as a modest home, it was purchased in 1855 by Sir Henry Ayers, who transformed it into a grand bluestone mansion. Today, it is recognised as a State Heritage Place. PLEASE NOTE This is only your pick-up point, the tour does NOT include a visit inside.
As we begin to hike through the Australian native bush, keep your eyes peeled for wildlife surprises as you learn about them from your guide! Spot koalas chilling in the treetops, and if we’re lucky, we might catch a glimpse of a kangaroo bounding past or an echidna waddling along. The park’s creeks and rock pools are buzzing with life: frogs, geckos, skinks, and even tiny dragons call this place home. And let’s not forget the feathered locals: from the vibrant rainbow lorikeets to the cheeky kookaburras, the air is alive with their calls. Take in the dramatic gorges and sheer rock faces light up by the morning light, as well as the views of Adelaide in the distance from lookout points. In season, you'll see Morialta's First, Second and Third Falls, all of which cascade over impressive quartzite cliffs. Take time to listen to the softly cascading water in this picture-perfect setting along Fourth Creek.
2 PM DROP-OFF AT AYERS HOUSE Wrap up the tour and farewell your fellow hikers. SUGGESTIONS TO CONTINUE YOUR DAY While NOT part of this tour, the Adelaide Botanic Garden could be a great place for you to spend the rest of your day.
