    Meet your guide at your accommodation in Sofia and begin with a guided introduction to the Bulgarian capital. Explore the historic center and see some of Sofia’s best-known landmarks, including Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, St. Sofia Church, the Russian Church, the Presidency, the Largo, the ancient remains of Serdica and the Rotunda of St. George.

    Boyana Church

    Continue to Boyana Church, located at the foot of Vitosha Mountain. This UNESCO World Heritage site is celebrated for its remarkable medieval frescoes and is one of Bulgaria’s most important cultural monuments.

    Rila Monastery

    After the visit, travel south through the scenic countryside toward the Rila Mountains. On arrival at Rila Monastery, enjoy a guided tour of the monastery complex and learn about its history, architecture, religious importance and role in preserving Bulgarian culture. There will be time for lunch in the Rila area before returning to Sofia in the late afternoon. Drop-off at your accommodation. Overnight in Sofia at your own hotel.

    After pickup from your Sofia accommodation, travel to Plovdiv, approximately two hours away. Discover one of Bulgaria’s most fascinating cities on a guided walking tour through its historic center. Explore the cobbled streets of the Old Town, traditional Bulgarian Revival houses, the Ancient Roman Theatre, the Roman Stadium area and the lively Kapana creative district. Learn how Thracian, Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman and Bulgarian history have shaped the city over thousands of years.
