Journey through 3 enchanting days in Portugal's Alentejo, pedaling from historic Évora to majestic Monsaraz Castle. With hybrid bikes or e-bikes, GPS guidance, and seamless logistics, immerse yourself in carefree cycling, local cuisine, and wine.
This tour is designed to be a shorter cycling trek that will still allow time each day to enjoy everything (food, wine, sights) that the unique towns on the tour have to offer. So if you're looking for a fun and challenging ride and you are short on time but want to enjoy a nice glass of wine along with regional cuisine overlooking stunning landscapes, glorious lakes and sun-bathed plains, then this is the tour for you.
Set out from Évora on the newly inaugurated ecopista that connects Évora to Monsaraz. This trail was created over an old railroad that used to serve this area, but with disuse it was turned into something that everyone can enjoy. Now you get to enjoy a stunningly beautiful trail through scenic vineyards, pastures and farms that you can’t reach by car. The trail ends in Reguengos de Monsaraz, slightly southwest of your destination. You will make your through this town and onto Corval, a small town that is famous for its unique pottery. Don’t forget to stop at one of the many workshops and pick up a few pieces. A short distance later you will arrive at your hotel.
Today’s ride will take you through stunning landscapes of Alentejo farms and cork forests. After saying goodbye to Monsaraz, you will make your way to the foot of the Serra d’Ossa mountains. Although it’s a challenging climb, the view of the mountains is incredible. Redondo is known for its great wine, but you will also find some hidden gems in this town such as a notable pottery shop that sells its wares all over Portugal. Cork is also very important to this town. Find artisans who handmade cork pieces by hand throughout the area.
After fueling up with breakfast, the journey back to Évora begins. You will wind through back roads in the countryside and a few small Alentejo towns. The last part of your journey will be on the Ecopista de Reguengos for a nice and easy flat ride. This evening, we will collect your bicycles and bid you farewell as you enjoy an evening in the city or head on to your next destination. If you choose to stay in Évora, you can explore the Roman Temple and the Chapel of Bones in this beautiful UNESCO World Heritage city. Private transportation back to Lisbon is available.
