In this workshop, each visitor learns to write their name in kanji, creating a one-of-a-kind artwork as a memento of their stay in Japan. Instruction is available in English and French.
Part 1: Understand Japanese Characters:
The master breaks down the origins and characteristics of Japanese hiragana, katakana, and kanji.
Part 2: Learn Basic Techniques :
You will receive careful instruction on everything from how to hold the brush to basic strokes. Master the brushwork for tome (stop), hane (hook), and harai (sweep) by writing simple kanji.
Part 3: Choose Kanji for Your Name :
The master will propose several kanji that match the sound of your name. Choose your favorite based on the meaning or visual beauty.
Part 4: Create Your Artwork:
After practicing on paper, you will create a final version on a shikishi board. This one-of-a-kind artwork is yours to take home.
- Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting stained, as ink may get on them.
