Built in 962 AD during the Warmadewa dynasty, the temple is dedicated to Vishnu, the Hindu god of water. Pilgrims and visitors come to bathe in the temple’s series of crystal-clear fountains believed to have healing properties, as part of a spiritual cleansing ceremony called melukat. Sangeh Monkey Forest is a serene and sacred forest sanctuary located in the village of Sangeh, about 30 minutes from Ubud. The forest is home to hundreds of long-tailed macaques who live freely among towering nutmeg trees that are believed to be centuries old. At the heart of the forest lies Pura Bukit Sari, a 17th-century temple surrounded by mystical stone statues and moss-covered paths, adding to the tranquil and spiritual atmosphere. Unlike the more crowded monkey forests in Bali, Sangeh offers a quieter, more peaceful experience, where visitors can observe the monkeys in a natural setting and enjoy a stroll through Bali’s enchanting jungle.
