After June 21, the salmon in the Gastineau Channel start returning to hatchery. Seals and sea lions can usually be spotted. Prior to then, there is still much to see and learn about. Your guide will teach you about the different salmon species, and why the hatchery is important to Juneau (and Alaska). For your kids, there is a cylindrical aquarium with captivating native species, and a touch tank to feel the various sea critters. A gift shop, free coffee and smoked salmon samples are also on-site. *Restrooms Available
Your kids will be enthralled by Takhu, a humpback whale statue commemorating fifty years of Alaskan statehood, and two native totem poles will also catch their attention. Meanwhile, the adults in your group will be able to absorb the gorgeous scenery of the Gastineau Channel, the Juneau-Douglas bridge, and Douglas Island.
