If you're looking to do something unique and exciting come with Petit Maasai Safaris for this 2-day Longido Tour: climb a mountain, walk in the wild, and spend time with the local community on this adventure.
This experience includes a walking safari to see wildlife such as giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, gazelles, and more. Plus cultural experiences to learn about the Maasai tribe of Tanzania.
The second day of the tour is a full mountain hike to the top of Longido Mountain (6-8 hrs climb).
You will get active, meet the local community, and experience the authentic side of Tanzania, close to nature and away from the tourist bubble.
You may camp in the area, or stay in a comfortable guest house - you decide.
We provide camping equipment such as tents, sleeping pads and a camp kitchen + talented chef to ensure the best outdoor experience.
We arrange pick-up from domestic and international airports, Arusha-area hotels or meeting hubs.
The small community of Longido sits in the shadow of Longido Mountain, in a wilderness area dotted with Maasai Bomas. Your experience will start with a walking safari, led by a local guide, through the open landscapes of Longido. Morning walking safaris offer the best chance to spot giraffes, zebras and gazelles that freely move about the area. You will enjoy exploring the area and identifying animal tracks as the sun gets higher and the day grows warmer. There is an optional 45-min walk to a seasonal waterfall, if you are feeling adventurous. Please note, the waterfall may be absent during dry seasons.
Option to visit a local Maasai Community (near the Secondary School) and learn about the traditional culture of the Maasai people, beading, cooking, and herding animals.
We recommend having an early start this day, with breakfast at 6:00 am. After breakfast, meet with your local mountain guide and drive to the trailhead. Begin hiking over large boulders and rocky terrain, and slowly move further into the forest. Ask for any rest stops along the way, as needed. Be sure to drink plenty of water and pause for lunch to take in the view. By late morning, you may have passed through the forest areas and entered into moorlands. The most thrilling part of this mountain climb is reaching the rocky summit, which requires no technical skills or training, but is an adrenaline-rush, all the same. After a much deserved rest and photos at the top, descend back to your guesthouse or camping area. Then drive back to your Arusha accommodations.
For the conclusion of this tour, your driver-guide will drop you back off at the original meeting point, or other Arusha-area location or accommodation. We will help you unload all your luggage and say good-bye. Please note: this final day of the tour, accommodation is not included.
