Praia da Barra do Açu (often simply called Praia do Açu) is a rustic and tranquil beach destination in the municipality of São João da Barra, in the northern region of Rio de Janeiro state. The Mirante de Itaipuaçu, also known as the Mirante da Serrinha, is a breathtaking lookout point situated right on the border between Maricá and Niterói, within the Serra da Tiririca State Park. From this privileged position, you can enjoy a vast panoramic vista: the entire coastline of Maricá, including the long stretch of Itaipuaçu Beach and its green mountain slopes. In clear conditions, the view extends to the famous Pedra do Elefante (which marks the start of a popular trail), the beaches of Niterói like Itacoatiara, and even as far as the Baía de Guanabara and the beaches of Saquarema in the Lagos Region.
