Rose picking in the morning is a cherished tradition, especially in Bulgaria, where the cultivation of roses, particularly the Damask rose (Rosa damascena), is a significant cultural and economic practice. This activity typically occurs during the rose harvest season, which usually takes place in late May to early June. Roses are generally picked early in the morning, just after the dew has dried, to ensure that the flowers are at their freshest. This timing helps maintain the quality of the petals.The practice of rose picking is deeply ingrained in the cultural heritage of Bulgaria. Early in the morning, pickers often gather with baskets and tools. Some may wear traditional costumes. The technique involves gently plucking the rose petals, ideally without damaging the flower or its stem. Care is taken to harvest only the best blossoms. Picked roses are usually placed in baskets or containers, often in layers to prevent crushing the petals, and taken to distilleries for processing.
