Miyajidake Shrine is protected by one of the largest Shimenawa or sacred ropes in all Japan. In the spring the expansive grounds feature fields of iris blossoms and other flowers. It is also famous for the "Shining Path" when the sun sets over the ocean and aligns with the gates and steps of the shrine to cast the grounds in a golden glow. Late February to early March and mid to late October are the best times of year to witness this spectacle.
