Jodhpur is often referred to as the "Blue City" because many of its houses, havelis (traditional mansions), temples, and buildings in the old part of town are painted in vivid shades of blue. This distinctive color has a historical significance and is believed to have been used by the Brahmin caste to distinguish their homes from others.

Jodhpur's old city is a maze of narrow, winding lanes that are full of history. Exploring these lanes on foot allows you to discover hidden gems and experience the city's authentic charm up close.

The Ghanta Ghar in Jodhpur is a magnificent clock tower in the centre of the city, it was built in 1910 to 1912 by Maharaja Sardar Singh about 113 years ago. Known as the clock tower of Rajasthan, it is a popular landmark that signifies the start of Old Jodhpur. The tower offers a brilliant panoramic view of the city from the top. The area surrounding this imposing structure is bustling with locals presenting all sorts of products and services, making it the busiest and largest marketplace of Jodhpur. The markets and the tower are a must visit for travellers who want to witness and experience the culture and people of Jodhpur. The clock tower is surrounded by street markets, with the most famous amongst them being Sardar Market, named after the late king. One can find a variety of people in this locality, representing all walks of life. At night, the tower comes to life when it is all lit up, making for a glorious end to a day well spent at this bountiful market.

Toorji Ka Jhalra (Toorji’s Step Well)

Toorji’s Step Well – was built in the 1740s by Maharaja Abhaya Singh’s Queen. Submerged for nearly a century, its recent drainage, clean-up and restoration has uncovered over two hundred feet of hand carved treasure in Jodhpur’s famous Rose-Red Sand-Stone; intricate carvings of dancing elephants, medieval lion and cow water-spouts, and niches housing deities long gone. Your stay in Jodhpur would be incomplete without a visit to this wondrous monument.

The temple was built in 1847 by Maharaja Vijay Singhji in the memory of his deceived son Sher Singh who died at a very young age. The temple is situated in the interiors of Jaipur but is accessible by all means. The shrine is made of Chittor sandstone and Makrana marble. The temple belongs to Rama Nandi Vaishnava sects of Hindus. The marvelous architecture of the building is something to keep a note of. A Shiva temple is also there which is 2 floors below the surface but can be seen from the surface. A pathway is also there to visit the temple.

    Ranisar Padamsar Lakes

The Ranisar and Padamsar lakes are two adjoining lakes in the city of Jodhpur built over 500 years ago. They are situated at the rear of the Mehrangarh Fort, near the Fateh Pol. These scenic lakes were created to conserve water, as Jodhpur falls under a desert region where water is scarce. The tranquillity of these adjacent lakes is complemented brilliantly by the stark contrast of the majestic Mehrangarh Fort, making it a sight to behold. The clear waters have been preserved and maintained for centuries, providing a serene vibe and an almost identical reflection of the grand fort on its surface.
