Learn how to bake a traditional Finnish blueberry rye pie, known as "savolainen mustikkakukko". Savolainen mustikkakukko has a protected geographical indication (PGI) granted by the EU. The workshop takes place in a 1700s log house in the Finnish countryside at Lake Saimaa with your me as your host, local grandmother Paula Okkola.
We'll make the dough, form the base, fill the pies with local blueberries and bake them together! This is small-group activity so I have time for everyone individually. The workshop space is a quiet, private place. Whilst baking, I'll tell you about the history and culture around Finland, lake Saimaa and my personal stories. We can discuss together about things that interest you and maybe we'll learn something new together about each others cultures!
In the end, we'll enjoy the pies together with some vanilla sauce and coffee/tea around my family table. You will get the pies you baked to-go, the recipe and of course new memories to take home with you!
Please follow the "Okkolan lomamökit" signs from the main road. We will meet in front of the restaurant. You can leave your car on the parking lot, no parking fee. Me or one of my employees wearing a red apron will be on front of the restaurant to greet and guide you.
