What to expect

Welcome to Kigamboni Homestay - A Community of Creativity and Movement - Village Stay:

Kigamboni is a unique coastal area just a short ferry ride from central Dar es Salaam. With sandy paths, the scent of chapati, and children’s laughter, this urban village forms a close-knit community shaped by strong bonds and local traditions.

You'll stay with one of several welcoming families living close together. Our Local Coordinator, Rashid, matches you with a host based on your interests and you’ll feel like part of a big extended family. Aisha invites you to weave carpets or explore the village with her kids. Beatrice shares Swahili flavours, while Mama Tatu ("Mama Chapati") teaches chapati-making and tailoring.

A highlight is Kigamboni Community Center, a vibrant place where youth train in acrobatics, dance and music. As a guest, you can watch performances or even join a session yourself.
