Kanonkop Wine Estate, nestled on the lower slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain in Stellenbosch, is a fourth-generation family-run estate renowned for its exceptional red wines, particularly Pinotage and the acclaimed Paul Sauer blend . The estate's name, meaning "Cannon Hill," originates from a hill where a cannon was historically fired to signal the arrival of ships in Table Bay. We selected this winery because it is believed that they produce the best Pinotage in the country. Pinotage is a uniquely South African red wine grape variety. It was created in 1925 by Abraham Izak Perold, the first professor of viticulture at Stellenbosch University. He crossed Pinot Noir (a delicate grape from Burgundy, France) with Cinsaut (known as Hermitage in South Africa at the time), hence the name Pinotage.
Waterford Estate offers a serene and enriching experience, combining world-class wines with the natural beauty of the Stellenbosch region. Whether you're a wine enthusiast or seeking a tranquil escape, the estate provides a memorable destination. This Estate is a distinguished wine estate nestled in the picturesque Blaauwklippen Valley of Stellenbosch, South Africa. Established in 1998, the estate spans 120 hectares, with only half dedicated to vineyards, allowing the remaining land to preserve the region's natural flora and fauna. We chose to visit thos beautiful winery especially because of their Chocolate and Wine Pairing. A signature experience pairing Waterford's wines with artisanal chocolates. We hope guests will enjoy this experience.
For animal lovers we have included the Giraffe House Wildlife Awareness Centre. Located at the intersection of R304 and R101 near Stellenbosch, South Africa, is a family-friendly destination dedicated to African wildlife education and conservation. The centre is home to a variety of animals, including Gerry the giraffe, the blue duiker—the world's smallest antelope—and the eland, the largest antelope. Visitors can also see Nile crocodiles, meerkats, zebras, and a range of birds such as ostriches and African parrots. Please be free to add on the itinerary.
