  Discover Alambí Reserve, a family-run cloud forest conservation project in the renowned Tandayapa Valley, part of Ecuador’s Andean Chocó biodiversity hotspot. Covering more than 120 hectares between 1,450 and 2,200 meters (4,757–7,218 ft), over 90% of the reserve is primary forest. Enjoy time in its flowering hummingbird garden, where up to 30 hummingbird species have been recorded, and look for colorful tanagers and other native birds. The reserve’s bird list includes more than 250 species, making it an excellent introduction to Ecuador’s cloud-forest wildlife. Guests may also enjoy locally produced coffee and take a short nature walk beside the Alambí River, surrounded by lush vegetation and the sounds of the forest. Admission is not included and is payable on site: US$5 per person.

  Discover Mindo, a small town surrounded by the lush cloud forests of northwestern Pichincha. Located within Ecuador’s Chocó Andino Biosphere Reserve, this region is celebrated for its remarkable biodiversity, mist-covered mountains, rivers, waterfalls, colorful butterflies, orchids, and exceptional birdlife. Enjoy free time in town to have lunch at a local restaurant, explore artisan shops, or simply take in the relaxed atmosphere of this nature-focused destination. Travelers may also choose from optional adventure activities available locally, such as ziplining, canyoning, tubing, rafting, or ATV rentals. Optional activities, meals, and personal purchases are not included and can be arranged directly on site.

  Mariposas de Mindo

  Visit Mariposas de Mindo, a butterfly breeding and conservation center located in the heart of Ecuador’s cloud forest, about 2 km (1.2 miles) from Mindo town. Walk through a colorful, enclosed garden where more than 1,000 butterflies may be seen flying freely among native plants and flowers. Learn about the fascinating butterfly life cycle—from egg and caterpillar to chrysalis and adult butterfly—and discover the ecological role these species play in the cloud-forest ecosystem. The site also features observation towers built with local materials, offering views of the surrounding forest. This relaxing and family-friendly experience is ideal for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts. Admission is not included and is payable on site.

  Add an adrenaline-filled experience to your day at Mindo Canopy Adventure, set amid the lush scenery of the Mindo cloud forest. Travelers who choose this optional activity will glide through a circuit of 10 zip lines, ranging from approximately 80 to 400 meters (262 to 1,312 feet) in length, with short walks between platforms. Soar above and through the forest canopy while enjoying views of the surrounding vegetation and valley. Before the activity, the local operator provides a safety briefing and the necessary equipment. This is an optional experience for travelers seeking an active and exciting way to explore Mindo’s natural landscape. Canopy activity is not included and is payable directly to the local operator. Participation is subject to the operator’s safety requirements and weather conditions.

  Tarabita y Santuario de Cascadas Mindo

  Experience one of Mindo’s most iconic nature adventures with a ride on the Tarabita, a rustic cable car that crosses approximately 530 meters (1,739 feet) above the Nambillo River canyon. From the air, enjoy sweeping views of the cloud-forest canopy, dramatic mountain scenery, and the lush landscapes of the Mindo-Nambillo area. On the other side, enter the Waterfall Sanctuary, a network of forest trails leading to a collection of beautiful waterfalls. Depending on available time, weather conditions, and the group’s pace, choose a shorter walk or explore more of the trail system. The route offers an immersive cloud-forest experience, with dense vegetation, streams, birdlife, and opportunities to cool off near the waterfalls. Admission to the Tarabita and Waterfall Sanctuary is not included and is payable on site: US$5 per person. Trails may be wet, uneven, and moderately challenging; comfortable walking shoes and a rain jacket are recommended.

  isit Yumbos Chocolate, an artisanal chocolate factory in Mindo, located just one block from the town’s main square. Discover how Ecuador’s renowned Nacional Fino de Aroma cacao is transformed into pure, handcrafted chocolate using traditional methods and carefully selected aromatic cacao varieties. During the guided visit, learn about the key stages of chocolate production, from cacao fermentation and roasting to the final product.
