This is more than just a weaving workshop — it’s a full cultural immersion led by a native Zapotec artisan in the heart of Teotitlán del Valle. You will connect directly with a living tradition that has been passed down for generations.

We use only natural dyes and fibers, prepared by hand using ancestral methods. Guests are not just spectators — they actively participate in every step: from learning about local plants and insects used for color, to weaving their own piece on a traditional loom.

The experience also begins with a Zapotec cleansing ritual and includes a homemade meal, making it a warm and meaningful human exchange — not just a class, but a window into our way of life.

What's Included

natural wool, natural dyes, cochineal, indigo etc.

What to expect

What to Expect During the Workshop

Upon arrival, you will experience a traditional cleansing ceremony using herbs and copal to welcome positive energy. Afterwards, we will enjoy a Zapotec breakfast featuring yema bread, chocolate, and other local snacks.

Next, we will introduce and discuss all the natural materials used in our weaving process, including the collection of plants and the use of carrizo (reed) to make the loom's tubes.

Then, we will move on to washing the wool and threads, followed by the natural dyeing process using plants and insects.

After a light meal, we will continue with the weaving, where you will create a small piece that you can take home as a unique souvenir of your experience.
