Kissonerga is a charming village in Cyprus, located between Paphos and Coral Bay. Its history dates back to the Copper Stone Age, as evidenced by archaeological discoveries at sites such as Mylouthkia and Mosphylia. The village is famous for its banana plantations, tranquil atmosphere and proximity to the coast, making it an ideal place for cycling exploration. During a cycling tour, it is worth cycling through country roads surrounded by greenery and plantations, and stopping at historical sites. The route can take you along the coast, offering beautiful views of the Mediterranean and the chance to relax in local tavernas. In the centre of the village, next to the school, is the church of Agios Kononas, which was built in 1987 and had its consecration ceremony a year later. It is the second largest church in Kissonerga and is an important landmark and place of worship.
Potima Beach is a true pearl of the Cyprus coast, ideal for lovers of nature and tranquillity. The beach impresses with the unusual colour of the water, which shimmers from turquoise to deep blue, creating a fairytale landscape. This is the place to enjoy some of the most beautiful sunsets on the island, when the sky and sea melt into golden hues. One of the unique spots on Potima Beach is the heart-shaped photo spot, which has become a favourite backdrop for romantic photographs. The natural surroundings, the sound of the waves and the soft sand make every moment spent here magical. What makes Potima Beach even more special? The dolphins! Several times we managed to spot them here as they majestically cut through the waves, adding even more charm to the place. It's an unforgettable experience that makes Potima Beach a place worth visiting again and again.
Admiring Coral Bay from a clifftop vantage point is an unforgettable experience to include in a cycling trip. After a challenging but rewarding climb, the reward is a breathtaking view of the bay, where golden sand meets mesmerising turquoise water. From the height of the cliff, you can see the dynamic play of light on the surface of the sea. This is an ideal point to rest for a while, catch your breath and capture the beauty of Cyprus in photographs. The cycle route leading to the viewpoint is full of scenic curves and the surrounding vegetation adds to the beauty of every kilometre. It's a place that delights at any time of day, but especially at sunset, when the sky and sea melt into shades of orange and pink.
Sea Caves and the Edro III wreck are one of the most picturesque places in Cyprus, perfect for a stop during a cycling trip. The cliff coast in this area impresses with its natural caves, which have been carved out by the waves of the Mediterranean Sea over the years. The water here has a mesmerising turquoise hue, and in the right light, it creates an amazing contrast with the light-coloured rocks. The Edro III shipwreck, which ran aground on the rocks in 2011, adds a mysterious charm to this place. The ship, flying the flag of Sierra Leone, was carrying gypsum boards from Limassol to Greece, but was pushed onto the rocks during a storm. Although the crew was rescued, the wreck remained in place, becoming one of the most recognisable attractions in the region. This place is perfect for sunset photos, when the golden light reflects off the waves and highlights the rugged beauty of the cliffs. If you feel like taking a break, there is a restaurant nearby with a view of the sea.
The Sea Caves are one of the most spectacular sites on the Cypriot coast, perfect for a stop on a cycling trip. These natural caves, carved by the waves of the Mediterranean Sea, create a picturesque landscape that is stunning from both land and water. Their rugged limestone walls contrast with the intense turquoise of the sea, creating a sight that will take your breath away. Over the years, erosion has sculpted these formations, giving them unique shapes and creating mysterious nooks and crannies to explore. On sunny days, the light reflecting off the water gives the interiors of the caves a magical glow, with their shadows creating unusual patterns on the rock walls. This place is also known for its rich history, as it has served as a refuge for fishermen and sailors for centuries. Today, it is one of the most photogenic spots on the island, especially at sunset, when the golden light highlights the beauty of the cliffs and the calm surface of the sea.
Kafizis Beach is a hidden jewel of the coast near Pegeia, offering crystal clear waters and a tranquil atmosphere. It's a place where nature combines with the wild beauty of the cliffs and the open sea to create unforgettable views. The beach is ideal for relaxing after a busy cycling trip - here you can relax, enjoy the view of the mysterious island of Yeronissos and enjoy the silence. In the evening, Kafizis Beach takes on even more charm as the moonlight reflects off the waves, creating a magical setting. This place is less crowded than the popular beaches in the area, so you can really feel close to nature and savour the tranquillity.
