Escape the busy everyday and experience a more peaceful side of Kagoshima on our exclusive small-group tour.
Led by a local guide, you’ll explore tranquil gardens loved by the Shimadzu family and visit historically important shrines where traditions are still alive.
This is not just sightseeing — it’s a chance to slow down, breathe deeply, and feel the spirit of Kagoshima through its hidden gems.

Participants are required to arrange their own insurance. Purchasing insurance is entirely at your own discretion and responsibility.
The guide will be waiting for you in front of the statue at the attached address (“Statue of the Young Satsuma Students” by Shinya Nakamura). If the meeting location is unclear, feel free to contact us by the day before the tour.
Our first stop is a hidden gem garden about 30 minutes by bus and foot from the meeting point: the former Tamazato Residence Garden of the Shimadzu clan. This daimyo garden was created in 1835 by Shimadzu Narioki, the 27th head of the family. We'll explore the garden, the teahouse (veranda seating available, no entry), and a bamboo grove. Enjoy a short meditation with healing instruments and a restroom break during our visit
The current main shrine was rebuilt in 1758 through a donation by Shimadzu Shigetoshi. It's about a 10-minute walk from our first stop. Here, I'll explain the sacred trees, how to pass under the Torii gate, the hand-washing ritual, and how to pray.
Our third stop, Kagoshima Gokoku Shrine, is a quick 5-minute walk from the last one. It's dedicated to Kagoshima's war dead from the late Edo period to today. We'll review shrine manners and I'll tell you about Kagoshima's history here.
