Here you are in the summer garden of Arles which separates the boulevard des Lices from the ancient theatre.
Just a stone's throw from the amphitheatre, here's the theater! It is less well preserved than its neighbour, but hey, it is a century older you will tell me, but at their ages we are not 100 years old!
From here, we will take Vauban Street to reach our next point of interest, while remaining focused on the city center.
The arch, which you see here, is one of the few remains of an ancient and important abbey.
This small church, built on top of the hill, is that of Our Lady of the Major.
Arriving in Major Square just next to the church, you have a very nice panoramic view of the Arlesian rooftops and the surroundings.
Let’s get serious with the magnificent Arles arenas. It is the most visited monument in the city.
You have arrived at the Forum Square. Van Gogh immortalized it in popular memory by painting on canvas coffee Night.
You cannot miss it, you obviously pass the Van Gogh Foundation.
You have, at the end of this impasse, the disused church of the preachers brothers. It is a Gothic church of the 15th century.
The Roman remains you are now observing are the Baths of Constantine. Not much remains, but they are among the best preserved Roman baths in Europe!
You now arrive on the banks of the Rhone. So, in addition to having inspired the painting “Starry Night on the Rhone” of our impressionist friend, know that here, was found in 2008, the bust of Julius Caesar, face against vase 6 m underwater!
You are here in the heart of the historic Roquette district. Typical streets, narrow houses, light stone façades covered with vegetation, touches of color thanks to their painted wooden shutters, it is an Arlesian cocktail that will delight romantics and photographers.
This typical and charming plot is an ideal place to take a break and watch life pass from the terrace of a café.
We pass the beautiful newly restored facade of the Arlaten Museum. It was created in 1896 by the famous Provencal writer and poet Paul Mistral, who was very committed to preserving the cultural identity of his region.
Arriving in the heart of the Van Gogh space, you find yourself in a green setting, surrounded by beautiful flowers and colorful arcades.
Here we are in the Place de la République. A must during your visit to the city of Arles since it alone brings together a great cultural and architectural diversity.
So here is the Cathedral of Saint-Trophime. The Christian community of Arles is one of the first to be traced in Gaul.
