  Here you are in the forecourt of the city’s main church and the most important Renaissance religious building in Switzerland. It is dedicated to Saint Leodegard, known as Saint Leger in French, a bishop of Burgundy of the seventh century, known as a martyr for his violent death.

  Here you are in front of the most famous statue in town. More than a million visitors come to this garden every year to discover the famous Lion of Lucerne. This poignant sculpture, carved from the rock in the 1820s, is the work of the Danish sculptor Berthel Thorvaldsen.

  Arriving in front of St. Peter’s Chapel, you find yourself face to face with the pretty colorful fountain of Fritschibrunnen. Built in 1918, it replaces another older fountain, and is dedicated, as its name suggests, to Fritschi, a legendary figure born of the Lucerne Carnival.

  You have here on your left, one of the most remarkable buildings in Lucerne. This is the “Zunfthaus zu Pfistern”, the home of the Pfister Guild. In medieval times, guilds were professional associations that regulated trades, set standards, and controlled training and access to the profession to which they belonged.

  These few steps take you to Kornmarkt Square, which could be translated into French from Grain Point of Sale Square. The Lucerne had been there to buy and sell grain since 1356.

  You may have noticed the practicality of the Swiss, who, at least in Lucerne, frequently name the streets after where they take you. The Hirschenplatz street, therefore, took you to the beautiful Hirschen square.

  Mülhenplatz, with its 15000m2, is the largest historic square in Lucerne. It was created in the late Middle Ages, taking advantage of the space left by the destruction of several buildings. Archaeological excavations have shown the presence of dwellings dating back even before the city of Lucerne was founded.

  Look up towards the hill in front of you on the other side. From here, you have a clear view of Castle Gutsch, whose whiteness contrasts with the surrounding forest.

  So you arrive at the famous Spreuerbrücke. It was first built in the 1400s to connect the old mills to the bakers’ quarter on the other side.

  The strange dam you see in front of you, which seems to be a pile of old pieces of wood, is the Lucerne Needle Dam. These needles are there to keep the lake water at an optimal level.

  I would just like to draw your attention here, to the beautiful 16th century building that makes the corner, with the stair turret on its facade. This is L’Alte Suidersche Apotheke, the oldest pharmacy in Lucerne that is still in activity.

• Ritterscher Palace Lucerne (Pass by)

  The imposing Renaissance palace that stands before you is an iconic building in Lucerne. It was built in the 1550s, at a time when the majority of the town's dwellings were made of wood. The inhabitants were therefore impressed by this luxurious stone construction.

  You are finally standing in front of the famous Jesuit church in Lucerne. You will see it from everywhere, thanks to its privileged location on the banks of the Reuss. Photogenic as possible, it is undeniably part of the panorama of the city.

  The great white building you pass now is the Lucerne Theatre. It is the only multidisciplinary theatre in the region. It has its own acting groups and presents shows all year round.

  Before crossing the most famous bridge in the area, I would like to talk a little about the famous water tower you see, adjoining the bridge. The one called “Wasserturm” in German, which usually translates to water tower in French, was probably not one.

  You are now at the heart of the matter, crossing the iconic “Kapellbrücke”, literally the Chapel Bridge. In the Middle Ages, Lucerne was a unique city, with 3 wooden bridges that allowed crossing the river at different points.

  You now arrive at Rosengart Square, behind St. Peter’s Chapel, Lucerne’s oldest Catholic church. It is the one that gave its name to the bridge you have just crossed.
