One of Japan's largest herb gardens, located on a mountain at an altitude of approximately 400m, is a resort facility offering panoramic views of the Kobe cityscape. Approximately 75,000 flowers and herbs representing approximately 200 species are planted here, allowing visitors to enjoy the changing scenery throughout the seasons. The garden also offers a restaurant, cafe, and herbal foot bath, making it a relaxing place to spend time. The glass-walled building is known as the "Glass House," and includes a greenhouse and cafe lounge. The German-style building in the foreground is "The Herb Dining," a rest house modeled after the ancient German castle, Wartburg. The area around the clock tower is known as the "Rose Symphony Garden," and is home to approximately 60 varieties of roses, primarily fragrant English roses. Adults 2,000 yen (round trip) Villain 1,000 yen (round trip) Admission fees are not included and must be purchased separately.
Kitano Ijinkan in Kobe is a residential area for foreigners that developed after the opening of Kobe Port in 1868. Located on a hill overlooking the sea, it features a unique streetscape where Western-style buildings intermingle with traditional Japanese houses. Approximately 30 Western-style buildings still retain their original appearance, 16 of which are open to the public. Each building in the neighborhood boasts a distinctive design. These include the iconic "Kazemidori-no-Ya" (Wind-Midnight House); the "Moegi-no-Ya" (Moegi House) with its elegant pale green facade; and the "Ume-no-Ya" (Fish Scale House) with its fish-scale-like facade created from approximately 3,000 natural slate tiles. Here, visitors can not only admire the beautiful, exotic architecture and learn about the lives of foreigners in Kobe at that time, but also enjoy panoramic views of the city.
The main ways to enjoy the area are to take commemorative photos with the Kobe Port Tower and the "BE KOBE" monument in the background, stroll along the waterfront, take a break at a stylish cafe, and admire the night view at dusk. You can enjoy the atmosphere of the port city of Kobe and relax while looking at the beautiful Port Tower and Maritime Museum.
