Tram Ton Station is the main starting point for climbing Fansipan, known as the “Roof of Indochina.” It is located at about 1,900 meters above sea level, where climbers gather to register, check tickets, and prepare their equipment before the hike. From Tram Ton to the summit, the trekking distance is about 11–12 km one way. It usually takes around 5 to 7 hours to reach the top, depending on your fitness and weather conditions. At Tram Ton, forest rangers check your information, explain safety rules, and control the number of climbers. The weather here is cool and fresh all year. This place is the official “gateway” to begin the challenging but rewarding journey to the top of Fansipan.
Hoàng Liên National Park is a large nature reserve around the Hoàng Liên Sơn Range and Fansipan. When you hike here, you walk through primary forest with big old trees, bamboo, moss, and many kinds of plants. Along the way, you can see small streams, waterfalls, dense forest, and sometimes beautiful mountain views in the clouds. At about 2,800 meters, this is a common place to stop, rest, and have lunch. The area is more open and cool, which is good for relaxing. The lunch is usually simple but enough to give you energy before continuing the climb to the top of Fansipan.
After a challenging trek, you will reach the top of Fansipan, the highest mountain in Indochina at 3,143 meters. This is the most memorable moment, where you can stand above the clouds and enjoy the beautiful views of the Hoàng Liên Sơn mountains. At the summit, there is a marker showing the height, where people often take photos to celebrate their achievement. The air is fresh, sometimes cold and windy, but the feeling of success and pride makes the whole journey worth it.
