Did you ever wonder where people “in the know” go in Moncton? Here’s your chance to discover the side of the city you never knew: charming cafes, innovative food producers, local hangouts and much more.
Take a delicious stroll through the heart of Moncton for amazing sights, people and flavours that will raise your visit from great to unforgettable!
Your guide will be waiting for you in the gallery's cafe wearing an Unexpected Moncton hat. If you are driving to the tour, parking is available directly across from the Starving Artist in the Blue Cross Centre. Please do not use the gallery's parking lot, as they have limited spaces for customers.
Our tour starts on the banks of the Petitcodiac River, a site of refuge and commerce for thousands of years. Learn how the Mi'kmaq explained the river's unique muddy waters, early settlers built a thriving shipbuilding industry along its banks, and today's community is working to restore the waterway to its previous glory.
Stories of Acadian poets, Spanish muralists, shipbuilders, railroad bosses, bootleggers and many more bring the historic heart of the city.
Enjoy a snack and drink from a local Venezuelan food producer
Celebrated in the 2025 Globe and Mail's Top 10 "Hidden Canada" tourism feature, St. George Street is a diverse and vibrant area with many bars, cafes, restaurants and more. We will be visiting three spots along the popular street for an artisanal chocolate tasting, coffee and pastry and hand-churned ice cream, along with murals and unique architecture from the past 150 years.
Our tour finishes up on the rooftop bar overlooking the Petitcodiac River, for cocktails and apps as we enjoy the waning of an unforgettable afternoon.
