Your tour is the most inclusive of any downtown mural tours in Houston. If parties are interested, we can also include entering a 1924 building to see New Deal murals. I will also provide historical context to these murals.
On Monday through Friday, we meet inside the rotunda of the first floor inside of the Houston City Hall. On Sunday and Saturday, we meet on the east side of City Hall at a picnic table on the upper level.. The east side of City Hall is the side that has a reflecting pool.
See a magnificent mural of a bird of prey.
See a beautiful image of a young girl with her face on a father's shoulder and a bird on her shoulder.
See images of overlapping ballet dancers.
Go inside to see a variety of 1930s New Deal murals, all painted by female artists including Ruth Pershing Uhler (1895 - 1967), Emma Richardson Cherry (1859 - 1954), and Angela McDonnell. The Library is closed on Sunday.
See a distinct mural of Mahatma Gandhi, a dove carrying an olive branch, and a young lady.
See on the backside of the building with warriors dressed as birds.
On both the west and north sides of the building see 2 different murals of Hispanics. One is a male custodian and the other is a female on a horse riding towards freedom.
See a very colorful mural from the ground to the roof on the north side of the building.
A mural of a jungle motif is on the west and north side of the McCormick & Schmick's Seafood restaurant.
The Hyatt has 2 murals on it. On the east side, a mural has images of a woman, bird, and a gyro. On the north side, a mural is dedicated to the ocean and its value to life.
