Selena Tour in Corpus Christi

12 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English

Corpus Christi (CC) is 208 miles/335 kilometers southeast from downtown Houston. Including 1 stop for a bathroom, refreshment and souvenir break, the drive each way is approximately 3.5 hours. Thus, we will spend about 7 hours driving to and from CC. We will take a slightly different return route so we can show you more sites. You will have many visual stimuli as we drive through a portion of the south Texas dessert with mesquite trees, and gravel replacing grass. We will drive through the wetlands surrounding CC and then into the subtropical Corpus. We will pass hundreds of windmills as we approach the coastal CC. Corpus Christi is almost always more windy, humid, and a few degrees warmer than Houston. Dress appropriately. Your van has a drop down movie screen. We have 5 Selena movies and documentaries to show as well as her Greatest Hits to play during your travels. Just tell us what you want.

The Selena Museum is the high point of this tour and the last place we visit. You will see her costumes including her purple jumpsuit that she wore to her last major concert at the Houston Rodeo in March 1995, jewelry, makeup, shoes, fashion sketches, handwritten notes, her childhood doll collection, album covers, records, Grammy Awards, photos of Selena and her family, posters, her red 1986 Porsche 911 Targa, the 2 Big Bertha buses, and more. The museum is located in a portion of the Q Productions Recording Studio that was transformed into the museum. You will be able to see the studio space. The last room that you enter is the gift shop. Every Selena fan leaves the museum with at least a few, if not several, keepsakes. The museum is only open on Monday through Friday until 4:00 PM; it is closed on Sunday and Saturday.

The Selena Memorial or Monument is your first stop when we arrive in Corpus Christi. Many of her fans cry when they see the life-size and life-like statue. Selena is seen wearing a leather jacket and holding a microphone. The statue was unveiled in 1997. It is located at the Corpus Christi Bayfront Seawall with a backdrop of the Gulf of Mexico. Selena's favorite flowers were long-stemmed white roses. Mirador de la Flor translates from Spanish into English as Overlook of the Flower. The monument has recorded information that tells about her life.

Selena's final resting places is your second stop in Corpus Christi. You will be able to pay your respects, pray if you like, leave a token of your visitation such as flowers, coins, and or beads, and of course take photos. Her grave site is a shrine that attracts people from all over the world. Always be respectful in a cemetery as other mourners may be present, also.

We stop here at this one-of-a-kind Mexican restaurant for lunch as your third stop. Selena identified this restaurant as one of her 3 favorite restaurants in Corpus Christi. Her favorite meal was carne guisada, a type of beef stew. The restaurant has lots of Selena photos and posters so while we wait for your meals to be served, you should get up and take photos, but do not disturb other people eating. LOL. The restaurant is closed on Sunday and closes at 2:30 PM on Monday through Saturday.

Approximately 1 hour after we depart from downtown Houston, we will stop for a combination bathroom, refreshment, breakfast, and souvenir break at Buc-ee's in Wharton. Buc-ee's is a Texas phenomena, known for their massive size and immaculately clean bathrooms. This is a smaller Buc-ee's with only 64 gas pumps. If you chose to buy breakfast here, please eat your food at Buc-ee's. You may drink all you want in in the minivan, but smoking, vaping, and eating are prohibited. We want to keep the vehicle clean for you and the next guests.
